Almost Crawling

Here's a quick post after our return from Houston. We have a ton more to add but here's a little glimpse at how our munchkin is getting around now.

Heading to Houston!

Yee-Haw! Howdy y'all we're heading to Houston today (Monday) to stay with my folks in Coldspring! We can't wait to see everyone & wish Kenny were coming with us but we will have to wait 2 weeks until then. We leave Miri at 4:30 then fly 2 hours to Kuala Lumpur where we change planes & fly another 2 hours to Singapore. We have a 6 hour layover in Singapore before we board another plane for Houston. The plane to Houston stops for fuel in Moscow where we will have to get off & then re-board. We arrive in H town Tuesday at 2. Wish us luck & happy (not miserable crying baby) travels!

This is a photo of our friend & Ken's coworker Travis at our house. Travis & Ken worked together in Houston & now Travis has moved to Miri. Too bad no one at my house likes him right? This just cracked me up - he has the whole gang! Ha! Keep sending the good vibes there Travis!

Another First!

Sydney sits up all by herself! You have to put her there but she can hold it for a few minutes before toppling over.

Otherwise, things are hot here which makes it tough to get outside a lot. Syd loves her Bjorn & faces front now. Ken is enjoying his first week at work & I'm excited about my trip home after being gone for a year. Life is good!

Sydney Growth Progress

Here is a recent photo I found of her that shows how much she is growing! She is about 15 pounds now & no longer hates being on her tummy - she loves it! She can roll over from either side on her back to her front - so now she can roll her way wherever she wants. She will push off & scoot on our hands if we put them by her feet.

No teeth yet but we are keeping a close eye out for them. Everything within her reach now is her target so we have to really watch the coffee! She can hold toys in her hands now & take them from you.

And she laughs. It's lovely.

Best of all? Yesterday I reached out to her when she was lying down & she reached her arms back to me - Kenny & I both saw it & just died. It hasn't happened again - yet! :)


PS: She is feeding constantly so we finally broke down & tried her on some rice "pudding" or whatever that stuff is for babies. Crash loved it. Sydney not so much. We will do it again tonight & get a quick video of her expression. Blech I think would cover it!

Albrecht's update (posted by Ken)

Okay all it has been a bit since we posted anything so here's the latest with us. We're in Brunei for the last 2 weeks waiting on my work visa. We'll go back to Miri next Monday (July 6th) and I finally start with Baker Hughes on Monday the 13th. This has been a long process of changing jobs. Way longer than if we were still in Houston. We've been making due at the Empire Hotel.

Sydney is 5 months now and in the middle of a growth spurt. She's been eating and sleeping a ton. She can roll over and grab her toys now. She'll be scooting and crawling soon. She's trying now but her baby motor skills aren't up to par yet. Oh yeah she loves to scream now. That's fun. Here's some new pictures of her.

Kota Kinabalu

We went to Kota Kinabalu last weekend. It is only an hour flight north of Miri located in the state of Sabah.

We stayed at the Nexus Resort which was a 40 minute drive from town but was located on a beautiful stretch of white beach with crystal blue water.

There was so much to do in KK but we decided to hold off on most of it until Syd gets a little bit older. Things like going to visit these beautiful islands, hiking Mount Kinabalu and hiking the rain forest. We decided to go to 1 Borneo which was hyped as "THE" newest shopping extravaganza. Our hopes for some simple items like shorts & an activity center for Syd were crushed once we got there & learned it was nothing more than a maze of boutique style shops filled with a few of this and a few of that - bummer!

We also learned that traveling with a 4 month old is very different than traveling with a 6 week old! She cried the entire flight there, poor baby. Luckily we thought to swaddle her & I got her to sleep before the flight home & she was an angel. Also, a full resort with many restaurants, etc. is lost on her. :) She was much more interested in the pool than the ocean. And by the time she was done swimming she was ready to sleep for hours so we would just order room service.

Great trip but lesson learned. Next time get the cheap hotel with the pool & room service. :)
